Low SAC Type Y (SAC0307) FAQ
How does SAC0307 compare to SAC305 in terms of cost and performance? +
SAC0307 contains significantly less silver (0.3% vs 3.0%), making it a much more cost-effective alternative to SAC305. While it offers a slightly higher melting range, its wetting performance is comparable to SAC305 in most standard wave soldering applications.
What is the optimum operating temperature for a LowSAC bath? +
The recommended operating temperature is 265°C ± 5°C. Operating at this temperature ensures excellent through-hole penetration and fast wetting while maintaining the stability of the alloy’s fluidity during dynamic wave soldering.
How should I manage copper build-up in the solder pot? +
Lead-free alloys naturally dissolve copper from PCBs. To keep copper levels within the recommended 0.6%–0.8% range, use LowSAC Type Ye copper-free top-up alloy. Regular bath analysis is essential to determine when a partial drain or top-up is required.
Is LowSAC Type Y compatible with my current flux? +
Yes, this alloy is designed for high compatibility. It works effectively with low-solids, no-clean, and VOC-free flux formulations. Always refer to your flux manufacturer’s data sheet to ensure the pre-heat and contact times are optimized for a 228°C liquidus.
Why does SAC alloy joints look dull compared to tin/lead? +
This is a natural characteristic of lead-free SAC alloys. Due to the inherent grain structure and cooling rates, joints will appear more matte or “dull” than traditional SnPb joints. This does not indicate a sub-standard or weak connection; it is purely a visual difference.
